Know Me Good - The Maytals - Monkey Man & From The Roots (CD)

Two seminal albums recorded by the best reggae vocal group, produced by the best reggae producer, the delightful Leslie Kong, and recorded at the always funky Beverly studios, this is simply as good as it gets. I bought both of these albums on Trojan vinyl in the 70s and the sound quality is better on this CD. /5(12).

The Maytals remained one of Jamaica’s leading acts over the years that immediately followed, with their popularity resulting in a recording deal with Island Records in Trojan then gathered a dozen or so of their earlier works for a belated follow-up to their Monkey Man LP, namely “From The Roots”.

 · It is hardly surprising the Maytals were leading the way in , as they had everything going for them – a talented, in-house songsmith who was also a distinctive lead singer, fine backing vocalists and Kong marshalling his musicians admirably. It is a joy to hear them in full flight on Monkey Man/From The Roots.
